Alma Noreen Loucks, or Reenie, as she was affectionately referred to by many, was born May 24, 1940 to parents Clifford and Alma Loucks. She was an only child. Noreen's family moved to Rosebud when she was a young girl and then to Delia where her father ran a butcher shop.
Noreen graduated from school in Delia in 1958 and then completed her nursing degree from the Calgary General Hospital in 1961. She married Victor Metzger in 1962 and moved to Craigmyle. She nursed in Hanna until the birth of her children Carmen Mae in 1966 and Dale Victor in 1968. Noreen worked hard- milking cows, butchering chickens, gardening, cooking, hauling grain or whatever needed to be done. She returned to nursing in Hanna once her children were in school.
Vic and Noreen divorced in 1981 and Noreen moved to Hanna where she eventually became the director of nursing. Many life long friendships were formed during this period. In 1987 she moved to Black Diamond where she accepted a new challenge at the hospital there. In 1991 she broke her ankle and this ultimately ended her nursing career.
Noreen married William ( Bill) Hill in 1992. They enjoyed many years camping, travelling, entertaining friends and enjoying quality time with their children and grandchildren. In 2001 Noreen and Bill moved to Hardisty to be closer to family. Noreen got to spend fifteen years in what she described as her dream home. The focal point being the kitchen where she made sure no one ever went away hungry. Noreen again gained some very special friends in Hardisty where she was active with the Ladies Auxiliary and the Handi Van Society.
Noreen passed away February 5, 2017 at St. Mary's Hospital in Camrose.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory children Carmen (Percy ) Eklund and Dale ( Shannon ) Metzger, grandchildren Amanda( Chance) Thomson, Cody (Corrine Thiessen) Metzger, Jeff(Chelsey) Eklund , and Mark (Shelby Gill) Eklund. She is also survived by 3 special great grand- children Khloe, Layne and Colby Thomson.
Cherishing her memory also are Bill's children Kathy ( Darrel) Herrle, Laurie (Ken) Duke and Michael (Joanne) Hill, and grandchildren Erin (Alain) Pedneault, David Duke, Steven Duke, Greg Duke, Kelsey Hill and Jordan Hill.
Noreen was predeceased by her first husband Victor Metzger in 2003 and her second husband William Hill in 2014.
She will be laid to rest at the Craigmyle Cemetery.
