Obituary for Thelma Elizanna Gall (Hughes)

Thelma Elizanna Gall (Hughes) was born in Hanna on November 20, 1926. She grew up in Stanmore. Thelma and Doris road double on a horse to school. They moved to Hanna where Mom attended high School. After high school Thelma went to hairdressing school in Calgary, staying with Uncle Tom & Aunt Nettie Anderson her Dad’s sister. Thelma met Danny when her Mom (Maria) asked Danny if he would give her a ride to Calgary to visit her daughter and sister-in-law. Thelma was very shy and it took Danny a while to get her to talk (Thelma’s story). Thelma and Danny got married in Calgary on November 20, 1946. Her Mom and Danny’s brother Henry were their witnesses.
They lived in Hanna from 1946 to 1950 at which time they moved to the family farm south of Hanna. They were mixed farmers and encouraged their children to join the Hanna 4-H Beef Club. Danny started working evenings for Grover Transport in
leaving Thelma to work the fields. Carol was responsible for milking cows, Gail was responsible for suppers and Penni & Robin were responsible for doing dishes. This worked for a while but then became too much so they sold the farm in 1967 and moved to Hanna building a house on 5th Avenue, living in the basement until the upper floor was complete. Thelma went to work for Smith’s Shoes and Danny worked for Revelstoke. She also worked for Sears and Berke’s Jewellers.
Thelma joined the Legion Auxilery and the Royal Purple. She also was a member of the Golden Hills Ladies Club and the Bullpound Community Club.
Thelma enjoyed playing ladies fastball, seniors mixed slow-pitch, curling, sewing knitting and crocheting. Her number one love after Danny was dancing and listening to the Hanna Old Time Band and the Yesteryear. She helped organize the Hanna Seniors Jamboree.
She enjoyed having their friends and family in for suppers and a night of playing cards.
Thelma lost her Dad when she was 12 so grew up in the company of her sister Doris and their Mom (not a large family). When she married Danny she became a part of the large Gall family all of whom she loved and enjoyed being with. She helped organize some of the Gall reunions as being with family meant so much to her. One of her favourite things to do was make bread, cinnamon buns and twisters spoiling her kids and grandkids. We love you Mom, we miss you. We know you are happy now to be with Dad.

Thelma is survived by her daughter Gail (Les) Krzywy, Carol (Doug) Michelau, Penni (Bryan) Langford and son Robin (Cathy Gall)
