Obituary for Rose Richardson

ROSE ELEANOR RICHARDSON
April 17, 1922 – September 18, 2010
As a family, we are grateful for the legacy given to us by Rose Eleanor (White) Richardson, beloved wife of the late Charles William Richardson. Rose went to be with her Lord and Saviour, and our Dad on September 18, 2010, in Olds, Alberta. Rose was born in Fielding, Saskatchewan, on April 17, 1922, to Harry and Elizabeth White, the younger sister of Bill and Maurice. Rose was also a big sister to her baby brother, Francis Burton, who sadly passed away in 1924. Rose’s father passed away in 1926 when she was four years old. After working as a seamstress to support her family, her mother went to work for Henry and Emil Heine as a housekeeper. Elizabeth eventually married Henry Heine in 1928 and after living in various places in Saskatchewan, Rose moved with her family to Bearberry, Alberta in 1936. The 1940’s brought war to the world. Rose waited at home like many of the women in Canada as her brothers went to serve in World War II. During this time Rose lived and worked in Bearberry and Calgary. At the close of the war, Rose eventually returned to Bearberry where she went to work for the Haggerty’s. Rose, then in her twenties, was soon to meet the love of her life, Charlie Richardson. After the war, Charlie returned home to his first wife Ethel and their son Jim. Ethel passed away shortly after Charlie’s return and he needed help to care for his son. Charlie and a friend, Mike Campbell, were looking for a horse to buy and went to Bearberry where they stopped to talk with Rose’s stepdad. Continuing on, they went to Roy Wayant’s for supper where Charlie told Mrs. Wayant he needed an “old maid” housekeeper to care for his son. Mrs. Wayant recommended “old maid” Rose, who was really a beautiful 23 year old! Rose went to work for Charlie and they fell in love, married and had six more children, Lynn (Jay) Contway, Dot (Ted) Negropontes, Ron (Heidi) Richardson, Geoff (Penny) Richardson, Penelope Richardson, and Cindy (Ben) Leussink to join Jim (Jennie Hornosty) Richardson. Rose was predeceased by her husband Charlie, son Jim, her parents, and brothers Francis, William and Maurice. She will be greatly missed by her children and their spouses, 18 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, her sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and many friends from church and the community. We would like to extend our thanks and gratitude for the tender care Rose received from Dr. Turner and the nurses and staff at the Olds hospital. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to the Olds and District Hospice Society. Funeral Service was held held at the Olds First Baptist Church on Monday, September 27, at 1:00 p.m., with interment following at the Eagle Hill Cemetery and luncheon at the Eagle Hill Memorial Community Centre. Condolences to the family can be forwarded from www.mountainviewfuneralchapel.com.
