Obituary for Robert Glenn Elmer

Robert Glenn Elmer
ELMER
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Glenn Elmer on March 31, 2014, at the age of 75. Glenn was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan on December 29, 1938. His family moved to Fort Macleod, Alberta where he spent his formative years playing all of the sports that he loved, especially hockey, basketball and fishing. Glenn also loved to dance and met his wife, Mabel, at one of the many dances that he attended. Glenn and Mabel were married in 1957. They moved to Lethbridge, then on to Calgary, where he started working with Canadian Western Natural Gas, now known as Atco Gas. They transferred to Olds in 1964, before Olds had paved roads. He saw a lot of changes and was involved in a great part of them. He spent six terms on Town Council, was a Charter Member of the Olds Lions Club and was a Legion Member and served one term as their President. Glenn also coached Minor Hockey and refereed games for many years. He enjoyed many summer weekends and vacations camping with family and friends. After 34 years of working, he retired so that he could enjoy his two greatest loves: travelling and his beloved granddaughter, Alexandra. Glenn is survived by his wife Mabel, daughter Leslie Bonenfant, son and daughter-in-law Bruce and Alison Elmer, granddaughter Alexandra Bonenfant (David Faulkner), great-granddaughter Alyssa Faulkner, sister Dorothy Martin (Kelowna, B.C.), brothers Larry (Marie) of Olds, Roy (Marilyn) of Vulcan, many nieces, nephews and extended families. He was predeceased by his parents, Sidney and Mae Elmer, brothers Clifford and George, and sisters Beatrice and Frances. Special Thanks to Dr. Steven Turner and the wonderful Staff at The Olds Hospital Long Term Care Centre. A celebration of life took place on April 8, 2014 at the Royal Canadian Legion in Olds, AB. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Olds Hospital Long Term Care Centre or the Alzheimer's Association. Heartland Funeral Services Ltd., Olds entrusted with arrangements.
