Obituary for Kathleen "Kay" Humphries (Bowering)

Kathleen "Kay" Humphries (Bowering)
HUMPHRIES
Kay Humphries was born on November 12, 1930 in Wiveliscombe, England. She grew up on the family farm in Somerset County, England. After completing school and college with an emphasis on science and dairy farming, she began working for the Ministry of Agriculture, TB testing cattle and upgrading milking premises. She married Gordon in 1963 and they emigrated with two daughters to Canada in 1969 moving to Rainbow Lake. Gordon’s work brought moves to Brooks, Canmore and Grande Prairie before retirement to Sundre in 1988. Kay was very involved with the Sundre Senior’s Centre volunteering at the local hospitals rehabilitation unit. Her last will and testament read, “whatever the circumstances of my death, it will not be a tragedy, for I lived a privileged life having loved and been well loved. I wish to be remembered, not mourned.” Kay is survived by one daughter Carol Helen; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; special niece Alison Keen of England and a host of friends. She was predeceased by her husband Gordon and elder daughter Joy Christina. Graveside services were held on Thursday September 7, 2017 at St. Hilda’s Arthurvale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to Sundre Palliative Care Association.
