Obituary for Norman Douglas "Doug" Paton


PATON
Norman Douglas Paton passed away on October 14, 2016 at the Red Deer Hospital at the age of 84 years. Doug lived and farmed in Eagle Hill his entire life until he moved to Sunrise Village in Olds in 2011. Doug was very active in the Eagle Hill community, volunteering over the years for many community organizations. He enjoyed curling and golfing with Jean, raising Gelbvieh cattle, riding his Appaloosa horses, and traveling throughout Alberta witching water wells. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially watching his grandsons play sports. Doug was a kind, gentle and friendly man who made friends easily and kept those friends for a long time. Doug is survived by his daughter, Diana Paton of Olds; his daughter and son-in-in-law Joy and Gregg Chamberland of Calgary; three grandsons, Eric, Brett and Marc Chamberland of Calgary; brothers Don (Ruth) Paton of Eagle Hill and Ralph (Shirley) Paton of Olds; sister-in-law Pat Howie of Calgary; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Doug was predeceased by his wife Jean in 2010; brother Robert in 1938; his parents Orval and Avis Paton; brother-in-law Bob Howie, brother-in-law Edwin Collins and sister-in-law Dottie Collins. Funeral services were held on Saturday October 22, 2016 at the Eagle Hill Memorial Community Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to Accredited Supports to the Community (for individuals with disabilities), Box 3940, Olds, AB, T4H 1P6.
