Obituary for Oscar Thomas Nelson

Oscar Thomas  Nelson
Oscar Thomas Nelson was born May 27, 1922 to Olaf and Emma Nelson in Shaunavon Saskatchewan. He was the fourth child of 11; two brothers and 8 sisters. Oscar loved the farm and eventually took over the homestead. He attended Orange Valley School, a one room school house. He completed grade 10. Oscar did military training but due to medical reasons never saw active service. For the next 20 years he worked on the farm and spent winters working at the Coop Service Station in town. On October 19, 1961 he married Noella Eva Marchand. Within 1 year, a boy was added to the family. Wayne Donald and 2 years later a baby girl, Melodie Louise. In October, 1974 the Nelson family moved to Three Hills. Oscar worked for CN Rail for 2 years before joining staff at Prairie Bible Institute as night watchman. He later took on a role in the shipping and receiving department of the Prairie Book Room and remained until his retirement at the age the age of 65. Oscar and Noella were active within the Three Hills community as long time members of the Gideon’s, Three Hills Health Store and the Prairie Tabernacle. After mom passed away in November of 2006 dad remained in the Three Hills Lodge until he moved to St. Mary’s in Trochu and then to Three Hills Continuing Care until his passing on March 16, 2015. Oscar is survived by his son Wayne (Lydia) Nelson of Three Hills; daughter Melodie (Richard) Vasselin of Three Hills; grandchildren Kyle, Kathleen, Craig, Erin, Brynne, Evelyn and great-grandchildren Colton and Eva; his sisters Dora McLennan and Evelyn Smith along with many nieces, nephews and extended family. He is predeceased by his wife Noella, parents Olaf and Emma Nelson, brothers Raymond and Frank and sisters Eleanor, Florence, Beatrice, Marian, Irene and Audrey. Funeral services were held on Saturday March 21, 2015 at Mount Olive Evangelical Free Church, Three Hills. Interment was held in the Three Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Gideons.
