On January 2, 2014 Stanley George Smith of Carstairs, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the Didsbury Hospital Unit 4 at the age of 90 years. Predeceased by his wife, Lois, and his infant daughter, Joan, he leaves to remember him, his children Ken (Linda), Bev (Brian), Janice (Jon), Murray (Gabriela), Jim (Gwen) and Rob (Maria), along with 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Stan will also be remembered by sister, Mildred (Len). He lived all his life on the family farm in the Carstairs area. At a young age, Stanley excelled at sports and was renowned in baseball and hockey in Carstairs and surrounding area. (Smitty was a star.) His passion was cattle and farm life. He was also heavily involved with his kids and their activities, coaching baseball and hockey plus was a leader of the local 4-H club. Stan was a long time employee of the Mountain View Seed Cleaning Plant. After retirement, he was a big fan of his grandchildren’s activities. Thank you does not seem to be enough to express our deepest gratitude for the amazing care and love from the staff at unit 4. You are all angels. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to Carstairs Minor Hockey. There will be a private family graveside service. Please join us in celebrating Stan’s life at a memorial reception at the Carstairs Community Hall on Saturday, January 25th at 1:30 to 4:00. Heartland Funeral Services Ltd., Didsbury entrusted with arrangements.
