It is with immense sadness the family of Edith Frances (Fran) Smith announce her passing on January 23, 2010 at the age of 67, after a long courageous battle with cancer.

Fran was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and is survived by Albert, her loving husband of 45 years, daughter Tammy (J.R.), son Patrick (Lina) and their children Domenic, Pascal, Massimo, son Rick (Teri) and their children Camryn, Dean and Alex, her sister in law June (Leonard) Mitzell, niece Patty Williamson and her children Paige and Blake, niece Laurie Cole and her children Pearl and Gordon, as well as many other nieces, nephews and numerous other friends.

Fran is predeceased by her father Frank Cole, mother Flora (Andy) Park and brother Gordon Cole.

Fran was born on March 2, 1942 in Calgary, Alberta. She was raised in Chestermere where she spent her youth and went to school. Fran met Albert in Calgary in 1963 and they were married a short time later on August 1, 1964.. Over the next 45 years they resided at the Smith family farm where together they created many fond memories; building their own home, taking part in family and community activities like 4-H, minor hockey, Cottonwood Gordon Ag Society and the Innisfail Fish and Game. Fran’s love of nature brought her outdoors. She enjoyed gardening and taking care of her flowers, riding horses, camping and fishing. She loved to spend time with family and friends; visiting, playing cards, cooking and sewing Some of her fondest trips included adventuring across Canada to Newfoundland and then to the Yukon with her cousin Dan and Joan Staal. She always had a special place in her heart for her many dogs and horses.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Ray and Linda Smith, the staff at the Red Deer Dialysis Unit and the nurses at the Innisfail Palliative Care Unit.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 29, 2010 at 1:00 at the Innisfail United Church, 4720 – 48 Avenue, Innisfail, AB.
