BASIL MARK RUDOLPH “TED/TEDDY” WEBSTER
1928 – 2016

Mr. Basil Webster was born in Linton Park, St. Ann, Jamaica W.I. the only son of Victor and Gertrude Webster. He died at the Innisfail Health Care Centre on December 24, 2016 at the age of 88 years.

Basil had his early schooling in Jamaica, entered the Mico Teachers College (now the Mico University) on a Government of Jamaica scholarship and graduated with Honors.

He then taught elementary school for a few years before leaving to study Natural Sciences at Roosevelt and De Paul Universities in Chicago, U.S.A.

Ted returned to Jamaica and taught at the High School level for a few years before immigrating to Canada in 1966. Canada has since then been his home. He became a Canadian citizen as soon as he was eligible. He also studied Education at the University of Alberta.

He worked with the County of Red Deer School Board (now the Chinooks Edge School Division) for his entire teaching career in Canada and retired as the Principal of the Innisfail Junior-Senior High School. After retirement he taught at Innisfail Career High for a number of years.

Ted was a Life Member of the Alberta Teachers’ Association and served that organization as a volunteer in many capacities at different levels. He served as a Board member at the local or Provincial level for different organizations dealing with youth.

He was a Life Member of the Lions Clubs International, a service club organization, and was a member of the Innisfail Lions Club for over thirty years. He held many offices at the Club District, Multiple District and International levels and served as a District Governor and as a Board member and the Secretary of the Lions of Alberta Eye Bank.

Mourning his passing are his wife Valerie, son Gordon (Daisy) and their daughters Vanessa and Grace, his sister Norma and her children: Wayne (Oi-wah), Valerie (Norman), Charmaine, and Sonja and their families: Nathan-John, Charis, Joel and Luke. His in-laws, relatives, friends and associates in Canada, the U.S.A., Jamaica and the U.K. are also mourning his death.

A Memorial Service for the late Basil “Ted” Webster will be held at the Innisfail United Church on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. If friends so desire memorial tributes may be made to the Lions Eye Bank (Alberta) Society or the charity of one’s choice.
