Obituary for Harvey Housman

Our Dad, Harvey Lewis Housman passed away January 24, 2015. He was born in Sexsmith, AB on January 12, 1925. His mother and father, Harvey and Mary, had relocated from Virginia to the Peace River Country where they were homesteading. Harvey was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years Inez, in 2013 and his sister Ida Mae McLaughlin. He is survived by his four children; Larry (Valerie), Tom (Jeanette), Linda (Dale Gaalaas), Jim and his daughter in law Sharon Housman as well as 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Harvey served in the RCAF in WWII as a gunner and after an honourable discharge he received a BSc in Pharmacy from the University of Alberta in 1948. After graduation he moved the family to High River then to Innisfail in 1951 where he and Housman Drugs (which became Parkland IDA Pharmacy and Innisfail Pharmacy) remained a fixture of the Innisfail business scene until his retirement. In the early days the pharmacy’s soda fountain was the centre for the daily community coffee breaks. Harvey was on the board that brought Innisfail the Autumn Glen Lodge, a member of the Rotary and Lions clubs, and a town councillor. Harvey enjoyed flying his Cessna airplane, skiing the mountains and travelling the world. He spent his summers at the cabin at Sylvan Lake and his winters in Tucson, Arizona. Dad, you will be missed and definitely a hard act to follow. Harvey’s memorial service will be at the Innisfail United Church on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Innisfail Health Care Centre, Heartland Funeral Services, Ltd., Innisfail entrusted with arrangements.
