Obituary for Ethel Goldstrom

It’s with very sad hearts that the family of Ethel Goldstrom advise you of her sudden passing at Sunset Manor Feb. 7, 2016 at the age of 88 years. Ethel was born at Innisfail and was raised in the KneeHill Valley district. She married the love of her life Fred Goldstrom on June 9, 1948. She is survived by her daughter Trudy, granddaughter Randi (Andy), grandson Cody (Sarah) and great grandchildren Lily, Wyatt and Cooper, sister Edna Sveinson and her husband Keith, nephew David and his wife Lori, and numerous other nephews and nieces.
Ethel was predeceased by her parents Clarence and Blanche Holt, husband Fred, son Larry, brother Stan Holt and sister in-law Ruby, brother in-law Everett Goldstrom and sister in-law Rose, sister in-law Eleanor Areshenkoff and brother in-laws Elwin Knight and John Areshenkoff.
She was your typical multitasking farm wife. Hard working, great cook, seamstress, gardener, grain truck driver, great wife, mom, grandma, great grandma, auntie and great-auntie. There was never a time when friends stopped by to visit that she could not offer a great meal or huge ‘buffet’ of snacks. Ethel was always prepared – so much so that their farm home was nicknamed “Ethel’s Corner Store” because if any neighbours were short something for their recipe, she always had it!
Ethel and Fred had many great years together that included lots of fun filled vacations, whether it was camping at Pine Lake or on a plane to somewhere warm. She was a very kind hearted person who loved everyone. Now that she has been reunited with her husband Fred and a lot of great friends, we’re pretty sure the crib games, bean bag tournaments and campfire music is in full swing.
Ethel is going to be greatly missed by everyone who was fortunate to know her.
Honouring Ethel’s wishes, there will not be a funeral, but her ashes, together with her husband Fred’s, will be spread over the family farm at a later date. A private family memorial will be held at that time. If you wish, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or STARS.
