Obituary for Rose Mabel Douglas

Rose Douglas passed away at home on December 7, 2014. Rose was born Feb 18, 1932 at Pine Lake AB. She attended Red Deer Composite High School and then the University of Alberta where she received her teacher’s training. Rose taught school at Little Red Deer, Cottonwood, Fairbank and Bellgrove schools.
Rose and Smiley were married at Pine Lake on August 28, 1953 and later moved to the farm in the Howell’s Lake District. Rose was passionate about her family, gardening, art and her community. Rose was once the recipient of the County Garden Award. She loved painting and spent many hours as a member of the Innisfail Art Council. She was also active in compiling community history books with her colleagues at the Elnora-Pine Lake History Book Association. Rose was also a key organizer of the Pine Lake Community Fair.
Left to cherish Rose’s memory is her husband Smiley and their four children Smiley Jr. (Lynne), Paddy (Karin), Garry, and Bonny (Ken), 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She will also be lovingly remembered by her sister, Winnifred MacFadyen. Rose was predeceased by her brother Ed Beckingsale and her sister Jean Jones.
A private funeral service is being held with a Celebration of Rose’s life to follow early in 2015. Memorial donations may be made to the Holy Trinity Anglican Church at Pine Lake or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Heartland Funeral Services Ltd., Innisfail entrusted with arrangements.
