Obituary for Stella Jacqueline Koch

Stella Jacqueline Koch
With sadness, we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great grandmother Stella Jacqueline Koch on October 26, 2016 in her 90th year. Stella was born in Calgary April 26, 1926, the eldest of three children, to John and Mary Poffenroth. When Stella was very young, the family moved to a farm near Huxley, Alberta. On October 27, 1944, she married Fred Koch and together they farmed the Koch homestead near Trochu. This was the beginning of a lifetime of farming in both Alberta and Saskatchewan. Stella enjoyed a variety of past times like gardening, sewing, knitting, oil painting and scrapbooking. Going to garage sales, flea markets, auctions and re-finishing antique furniture were just a few things Stella and Fred enjoyed together. Then they found Hawaii and for eight years they made the trip returning always with many gifts for us and the kids. After Fred’s passing in 1992 Stella moved to Olds and then on to Mountain View Lodge in 2010 where she resided until her passing. Left to honor her memory are children Diana (Willis) Kereliuk, Barry(Linda) Koch; grandchildren Heather Kereliuk, Amber (Jason) Ray, Taryn (Kent) Meyer, Dustin Koch, Cody(Chantelle) Koch and Jeff Koch; great grandchildren Stacey and Joel Ray, Devon and Sophia Meyer. She is also survived by her sister Alice Rankin and her brother Leonard (Bettyellen) Poffenroth. Also, mourning her passing is her special friend Rheo Chevtchank. Funeral services were held October 31, 2016 at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Olds. Stella was laid to rest beside her beloved husband Fred at the Dickson Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 5502-50 Street, Olds, AB T4H 1G9 or to the Mountain View Lodge, 5230-50 Street, Olds, AB T4H 1N7.
