Obituary for Caroline Selin (Huber)

Caroline Selin (Huber)
Caroline (Huber) Selin
April 9, 1924 – October 7. 2016
Caroline (Huber) Selin was the ninth of twelve children born to Michael Huber and Clara Zimmer on April 9th, 1924. She started her life in Grayson, Saskatchewan and moved to Bangor, Saskatchewan where she attended school. In later years, her family moved to Saltcoats, Saskatchewan to continue farming. While there, Caroline spent a couple of years working for a Turkey farmer.
Caroline left for Aylmer, Ontario in 1944, where she stayed with her sister Evelyn and Charlie Klein. She worked in the Tobacco fields for a year and moved to Windsor, Ontario where she worked as a housekeeper for a few years and then with the Essex Wire Corporation. In 1947, she returned to Saskatchewan and worked at Round Lake in the summer and in Stockholm, Saskatchewan for the winter.
It was in Stockholm that Caroline caught the eye of J. Rodgers Selin. Caroline loved curling, and Rodgers used to watch her curl between loads of fire wood that he hauled into town. Rodgers knew who Caroline was a time before they met. It was a short courtship and they married September 3rd, 1955. They homesteaded and had a mixed farming operation a few miles south of Stockholm. They had three children, Wayne (Lois) Selin of Stockholm, Sharon Selin (Randy Westergaard) of Spruce View, Alberta and Murray Dale Selin who passed away in infancy in 1963.
Caroline enjoyed curling, horseshoe, fishing, watching Rodgers play baseball, Blue Jays baseball, dancing, crocheting, sewing, quilting, cooking, baking and gardening. She was an excellent baker and her passion was her vegetable & flower gardens. She worked alongside Rodgers on the farm, working with the animals, hauling grain, harvesting and processing the fruits and vegetables of her garden. There was very little that she did not do.
Caroline had a wonderful loving energy about her that many gravitated to. Many would open up to her about their trials in life, and she always had time to listen and had words to wisdom if you were open to listen. She believed in hard honest work, integrity, God, family, friends and unconditional love.
Caroline remained on the farm after Rodgers, her friend, partner and husband of 59 plus years, passed away in April 2015. She grew and harvested her garden one last time, before moving to Gleniffer Lake Resort, Spruce View, Alberta, to live with her daughter Sharon Selin and Randy Westergaard and his children in October 2015.
Caroline was open to the new adventure, and took in every little piece of scenery along the way. She loved nature and enjoyed seeing new places and meeting new people. Caroline touched the hearts of all that she met along the way and made a lasting impression on everyone she met in her short time in Alberta. She had a lot of first experiences in the last year,

where she lived by her motto that she would try anything once. She touched the hearts of those around her right up to her last days with us, with her unconditional gracious loving spirit.
Caroline will be sadly missed by her brother Bernard Huber and Sheila Hutnan of Edmonton, Sisters Anne & Bill Greenwood of Regina and Martha Murray of Saskatoon. Her children Wayne & Lois Selin, and Sharon Selin & Randy Westergaard, Curt, Jacob & Benjamin Westergaard, Jaclynn, Gracie & Denim Van Eaton, Tanya, Steve, Iris & Wyatt Thurmeier. Her God children Wendy (Hollinger) Balon and Lionel Johanson. Along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Celebration of Caroline's life will be held at the Bethany Lutheran Church, Dickson, Alberta on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Bethany Lutheran Church or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
