Obituary for Bruce Freeman

Thomas “Bruce” Freeman of Didsbury, passed away on February 21, 2021 in the Red Deer Hospital at the age of 88 years. Bruce was born December 15, 1932 in High River to Joseph and Nancy Freeman. He worked for JV Berscht and Sons for many years while starting in high school and purchased the business in 1973. Bruce renamed it Freeman’s Men’s & Boys Wear and retired from the store in 1997. He served on many boards including: Town Council 1974-1997 and Hospital Board 1977-1989. Bruce was very involved in the Anglican Church serving as Rector and peoples warden and vestry for 25 years and also helped build the new church in 1990. He was an active member of the Kinsmen, K40 organizations including building the first swimming pool in Didsbury, Kinsmen Manor and the 5-0 Centre. He lived a long and happy life with the love of family, many accomplishments and few disappointments. Bruce will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Jean; son Terry (Kate); daughters Connie (John Fredine), Janice; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private family service will be held with an urn interment at the Didsbury Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Knox United Church Memorial Fund, Didsbury. Heartland Funeral Services Ltd., Didsbury entrusted with arrangements. 403-335-4773
