Obituary for Sylvia Gladys Dennis (Strohschein)

Sylvia Gladys Dennis (nee Strohschein) passed away peacefully at home where she wanted to be on December 27, 2019.
Sylvia was born on June 16, 1958 in Innisfail, Alberta to Bill and Gladys Strohschein and grew up on the family farm north and east of Wimborne with her four brothers and one sister. She attended Wimborne School for grades 1-6, Viscount Torrington School for grades 7-9, Trochu Valley School for grade 10, and graduated from Prairie High School in Three Hills in 1976. Following High School, she studied at Prairie for another 4 years and earned a Bachelor of Religious Education in 1980. She then enrolled at Red Deer College in their nursing program and became a Registered Nurse. Sylvia was active in the Wimborne Alliance Church throughout her growing years.
In September 1982, Sylvia moved to Calgary and began her nursing career at the Rockyview Hospital where she remained for the next 36 years, working in various capacities. She retired in August 2018. Two weeks before she retired, she was diagnosed with metastatic uterine leiomyosarcoma. Sylvia married Randy Dennis in April 1985 and they enjoyed almost 35 years together, raising their three children and loving and supporting each other.
Sylvia’s memory will be treasured by her loving husband, Randy; daughters Pamela (Matt) Andreasen and Sarah (Matt) Rogers, both of Calgary; son Brian Dennis of Calgary; her 5 precious grandchildren, Grace Andreasen, Samuel Andreasen, Lillian Rogers, Domanik Rogers, and Vincent Rogers. They will miss their loving Grandma. Sylvia will also be greatly missed by her siblings, Lorraine (Brent) Murdoch of Abbotsford, BC; brothers Emrie of Olds, Steve (Sharon) of Wimborne, Dave of Wimborne, and Alvin (Ruth) of Airdie; parents-in-law Hugh and Lorraine Dennis of Red Deer; brothers-in-law Tom of Medicine Hat, Stan (Sharon) of Calgary, and Wade (Jody) of Red Deer; sister-in-law Glenda Dennis of Mission BC.; and many nieces and nephews. Sylvia was predeceased by her parents, Bill (in 1997) and Gladys (2012) Strohschein and her dear sister-in-law, Marlaine Strohschein (in 2013). Sylvia was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother; fun, loving and caring sister; compassionate and competent nurse; and faithful and supportive friend.
Funeral Services will be held at First Baptist Church, Olds Alberta on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 11:00am.
