Obituary for Shari Lynn Medford (Stanton)

Our family is sad to announce that Shari Lynn Medford (Stanton) passed away Monday, November 9, 2020 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital at the age of 58. Shari was born in Calgary, March 15, 1962, to Richard and Violet Stanton. She was the youngest sister to Donna (Brian) , Kevin (Janet) and Murray (Ivy) and Auntie to seven nieces and nephews. She was married to Jim Medford in 1991 and cherished her stepdaughters, Erika and Vanessa. Shari was predeceased by her Mother (2019) and Father (2005). Shari grew up in the Red Deer Lake area, south of Calgary and attended school there until grade 8. She then she moved with her family to the Raven area and graduated from Spruce View School. Shari enjoyed working with numbers, public relations and she had a hidden artistic talent. She held several jobs including stints with the Government of Canada in Penhold, Edmonton and Digby, Nova Scotia. Being a farm girl, Shari always enjoyed nature and animals. Her best friends were her pet cats and dogs whom she dearly treasured. She loved to ride horses and was always ready for an adventure. Sports like basketball and softball were important to her as she had a very competitive nature. She enjoyed board games and card games, especially if she won. During her last years she loved a good game of crib and was ever sharp on her point counting. Her Helping Hands ladies especially Donnell came prepared to challenge her. As life became more difficult Shari moved from Spruce View and eventually to Bethany CollegeSide Care in Red Deer. We thank the staff on A1 and A2 for their excellent and personal care. Shari was always keen to share a joke or try and scare her helpers with her toys like her talking cat. The bigger reaction, the harder she laughed. Through the years Shari had many caregivers that helped her with life and her needs. We, her family, appreciate so much the dedication, extra time and care each of them took with Shari. As life became more challenging with MS, Shari had many struggles but she usually rallied right back. A doctor once told her she had an amazing ‘life spirit’. Shari enjoyed collecting anything depicting angels and kept them close to comfort her. One of Shari’s greatest wishes was that her body be ‘given to science’ to help in Multiple Sclerosis research. In that regard, a burial will not be held at this time but arrangements will be made for her future interment. Life has been a ‘tough row to hoe’ as Shari’s dad used to say but now she rests in peace.

We miss you, Shari.
‘Angels…….Fold your wings around her and softly sing songs of heaven above’
