Obituary for Raymond Earl Fischer

We are saddened to share that Raymond Earl Fischer passed on November 2 at the age of
97. Born on March 13th 1925 in Didsbury. Raymond was the third child born to
Henry and Emma Fischer. Raymond, along with his four siblings, attended school at
Clovermount School.

On January 19th 1951, Raymond married Wilma Chandler and together they raised two
children, Mark and Carol. During the first years of lives together, they lived first in the Rocky
Mountain House district, and later at Elkwater in the Cypress Hills district, where Raymond
enjoyed the life as a Forest Ranger. In 1960 they returned to Didsbury and farmed west of
Didsbury (across the road from his brother, Clair). In 1970 they moved to Didsbury, and
Raymond was employed at the Didsbury Hospital. In 1976 they moved to the Chandler farm
where Wilma had grown up. Raymond retired from the Provincial Building in Olds in 1987.
Raymond resided with his son Mark on the farm until his passing.

Raymond is survived by his son Mark of Didsbury and his daughter Carol (Clarence) of
Daysland. Missing him greatly will be his grandchildren Carly (Leslie), Ethan, Jordan, Blaine,
and Samara-Lyn. He leaves behind his great-grandchildren Kayden, Chace, and Emmett. He
survived by his sister-in-law Barb Fischer of California and many nieces and nephews.
Raymond was predeceased by his wife of 56 years Wilma (2007), by his parents Henry and
Emma, and his brothers Lloyd (2018), Ron (2018), Clair (2022), and his sister Erna McCafferty
(2018), and nephew Dale Fischer (2017).

The family sends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Didsbury Hospital ER for the
loving care they have given to Raymond in his final few days. In keeping with Raymond’s
wishes, there will be no funeral. A family gathering will be held at a later date. If friends desire,
memorial donations may be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation or the charity of one’s
choice.
