Obituary for Phoebe Adair

ADAIR
1934 – 2021

We are broken hearted to announce the passing of our lovely mother, Phoebe Adair on Sept 30th at Seasons Encore in Olds, Alberta. Phoebe was the middle of 9 kids growing up on a small farm near Waldec, Saskatchewan. Like her mother before her, Phoebe knew the hard work of raising a family and knew how to make the most of very little. Even as she and our father began building their family together, she often went with less so that we could have all we needed. Phoebe was an enormously social person. She adored live music and dancing, only giving the latter up in the past few years. She had many friendships that brought her great joy, several dating back decades. She loved her community, and throughout our many moves across Saskatchewan and Alberta, she could usually be found volunteering her time with the Lionesses Club, on the local bowling team and involved in her kid’s various activities. After she and our dad retired in Olds in 1989, she continued to volunteer several days a week for years with organizations close to her heart like the Food Bank, the Olds Hospital and the IODE. In spite of her busy calendar, Phoebe’s greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was a fantastic cook and she loved preparing spectacular meals for the holidays including the favourites of all of her family members. Her gingersnaps and nanaimo bars were legendary and everyone went home with a care package. She kept track of everyone’s birthday, still sent handwritten cards, didn’t much care for “the internet” but could be talked into facetiming with her grandkids when she couldn’t see them in person. She still insists her kids, now in their 50’s and 60’s, call her when they got home from anywhere. She is pre-deceased by her parents, Fay and Alec Himour; husband W. Campbell Adair; brothers Sam Himour, Ab Himour and Marvin Himour; sisters Ann Ell and Belle Wood. She is survived by her brother Hassen (Smiea) Himour, sisters Mona Callendar and Lila Gibson; her children Rob (Liz) Adair, Wilda (Gordon) Wallace, Doug (Sandy) Adair and Lorna Robyn Adair; grandkids David (Jessica) McNair, Riley (Lindsey) Wallace, Taylor (Kaitlyn) Wallace, Rhett Wallace and her 3 great grandkids, Brinley, Becket and newcomer Adair who she finally got to meet in July. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to Olds & District Hospice Society. Heartland Funeral Services Ltd., Olds entrusted with arrangements. 403-507-8610 Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.heartlandfuneralservices.com.
