Obituary for Margaret Shudra

Margaret “Marge” Mary Shudra (nee Gaydosh)

It is with heartfelt sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Margaret Shudra, at the age of 86, after a brief illness at the Foothills Medical Centre, Calgary on September 27th, 2021.

Marge was born on the family farm near Nampa, Alberta on January 30th, 1935. Marge was the second of six children of Louis and Annie Gaydosh. Life in her early years was challenging and she worked hard on the farm and helping care for her younger siblings. Marge met Walter Shudra of Reno at a school picnic in Nampa and they were married May 25th, 1953 at the Catholic Church in Nampa. Between 1954 to 1959 they welcomed their four children. During this time Walter became a construction foreman and the family was constantly moving to where his crew was building houses. The family settled in Olds in 1961 and Marge and Walter were long-term residents until 2011.

Marge had a strong work ethic. In addition to caring for her family, she held various part-time jobs at the Olds Drive-in Theatre, Olds Theatre, Eaton’s Catalogue-order outlet and the Olds Co-op. Marge also assisted with Walter’s cabinet business and managing their two fourplexes. Marge was also a member of the Olds Catholic Women’s League.

Marge was a dedicated homemaker and also keenly interested in lives of her children and grandchildren. She was a supportive parent and was very proud of her children’s achievements and their families. Marge was a fine cook and visitors were well-fed. Her grandchildren loved her butterscotch marshmallow squares and playing board games with her. During her early years in Olds Marge curled and enjoyed knitting. Also she enjoyed C&W music and watching sports and soap operas on TV.

Marge is survived by and lives in the hearts and memories of her sons Gary (Diane) and Dale (Merilyn), daughter-in-law Reta, nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and brother Edward (Jane) Gaydosh. Marge tragically had to live with the pain of losing two adult children; her daughter Gale and son Daryl. Marge was also predeceased by her husband (Walter), parents Louis and Annie Gaydos (Pillar), brothers John (Gladys) Gaydosh and Frank (Lynn) Gaydosh, and sisters Angeline (Jim) Himer and Justine (John) Klovansky.

Margaret will be buried at the Olds Cemetery with close family in attendance.
