Obituary for Margaret Eleanor Gates-Gilroy (Gates)

Mrs. Margaret ‘Ginger’ Gates-Gilroy passed away at the Peter Lougheed Center, Calgary, Alberta on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at the age of 77 years. Ginger was born and raised in Banff, Alberta, however spent most of her earlier years in Vernon, British Columbia. After the passing of her husband, Gordon Gilroy, she moved to Innisfail in 2000. Ginger enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, especially enjoying the time she had with her grandchildren. She spent time reading, doing water aerobics and enjoyed a great game of Bingo at the Legion. Ginger was known to always have a smile on her face and many people would remark that she was one of the kindest, and friendliest of people, who had a heart of gold. She was also known to many as the sweet old lady with a whole lot of sass. She loved everyone that she met, always willing to help where she could and never said no to anyone, especially when it came to her grandchildren. Ginger will be lovingly remembered by her son, Steven Gilroy, her two daughters, Shelley (Blake) Sutherland and their children, Hayden, and Taytum, and her daughter, Susan Laventure, and her children, Braetanna, Mikayla and Lex Laventure, and two great grandchildren. She will also be sadly missed by her two sisters, Julia Desmarias and Kathy Gates-Grogan. Ginger was predeceased by her husband, Gordon, her parents, Margaret and William, a brother, Kenney Gates, and a sister, Geraldine Gates. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
