Obituary for Lyla "Anita" Wood

Mom, Grandma, Great Gram, and Great Great Gram passed on shortly after 4 PM on
Monday afternoon with Gord, Shelley and Wanda by her side. Anita was born in Carlyle
Sask over 2 months premature thus starting a habit of resilience in life. Her Aunt Lyla
assisted the country doctor in the birthing. 2 months later her dad Jim Williamson and
mom Kathleen moved to Dog Pound, Alta. Kathleen passed away at 40 years of age and
Anita at age 16 helped to look after her 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Anita lived in the Dog
Pound area until marrying Gordon R Wood on April 20, 1949 and moved to the Carstairs
area. She was predeceased by her dad Jim Williamson, mom Kathleen and second wife
Gladys, mother and Father In Law, Ray and Nettie Wood, husband Gordon, son Richard
Leonard, brother Nelson (Brandy), brother Bob (Faye), Brother In Law (Don Leask), sister
Alta, Grandson Richard Daniel and Son-in-law Terry Leinweber. Anita (mom) is lovingly
remembered by her 3 remaining children Gordon (June) Wood, Shelley Leinweber, and
Wanda (Dan) Meyer who were with her when she went on to glory. Grandchildren Pat,
Terrina, Christine, Jennifer, Jamie, Lindsey, Brian, Steve, Jordan, Alisha, Caleb and Erin. Also
survived by 23 Great Grand children and 1 Great Great Grandchild. Also survived by sister
Corrine Leask, brother Denny and Audrey Williamson and Brother In Law Jim Backs. We
are all sure going to miss you Mom, but we know you are with your Savior Jesus and look
forward to seeing you soon.
A special thanks to the wonderful caregivers at Bethany and the lodge in Carstairs where
Anita resided for well over 2 years.
A Funeral service will be held at the Carstairs Community Hall on August 17, 2023 at 1:00 PM.
