A Tribute
Lawrence Ralph Reinhold Palmquist (Lorne) - A farm boy from Dugald, Manitoba. Born on Thursday September 29, 1932 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to proud parents, Margaret and Karl Edwin Palmquist.
The family farm, in the Hazelridge district near Dugald, Manitoba was where Lawrence learned to love the land, appreciate the value of hard work, fulfill personal commitments and recognize the importance of family.
On June 16, 1956 at the age of 23, Lawrence married Phylis Margaret Schau in the city of Winnipeg. They initially resided in a converted honey house near the family farm where they started a family. In 1962 they relocated to the city of Winnipeg and here, they raised their four children.
Lawrence spent the majority of his employment years with Simon-Carter Day as a machinist steelworker. Fabricating numerous metal containers including those used on the farm for grain. His weekends were routinely devoted to the needs of the family farm. On the farm and through his career, he demonstrated his abilities and skills to maintain and prefabricate farm machinery to keep them running.
Pets were uncommon in the city home, but Lawrence himself broke the mold one day bringing home an abandoned dog named Jolene. From that time forward a friendly dog would always meet you at the door; a door that was always open. Upon completion of his career, Lawrence and Phylis returned to the family farm where they constructed their new family farm house.
In 1997, Lawrence and Phylis relocated to Alberta and settled in the Three Hills area to be close to a family member. With his love for the land and farming he quickly found himself helping others with their seasonal farm needs and working the land.
Lawrence flourished with the rural community life, loved his family and embraced the church and his beliefs in God. He enjoyed the outdoors, curling, baseball, golf, rodeos and was a bowling enthusiast. He was regularly present at the Hillside Lanes, bowling or simply volunteering his time so others could enjoy the sport.
Lawrence was predeceased in 2016 by Phylis, his wife of 59 years, and his brother Carl in 2013.
Lawrence was a devoted father who will be lovingly remembered by his four children: Randy, Jane; Judy, Terry; Lorne, Maxine; Shawn, Theresa.
Beloved Grand Father to Heather, Jeff; Erin, Scott; Kyle, Savannah; Travis, Danielle; Scott, Alyssa, Amy, Dustin; and Amanda. Honorary Grand Father to Sarah, Chris
Proud Great Grand Father of six: Danielle, Dane, Alexander, Linden, Ares and Mikaela.
Lawrence leaves one brother Norman and three sisters, Margaret, Eileen and Janet.
Also survived by his extended family from the Schau, Kelly, Kwamsoos, Hendershot and Dinsmore clans.
Following a lengthy illness, Lawrence passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, October 18, 2019 at the age of 87 in the Three Hills Health Care Centre.
Lawrence a great man in his own right left us with great memories, strong work ethics, personal values and love of family. We will cherish our memories of Lawrence forever.
Lawrence, laid to rest in the Three Hills Cemetery is now, and for eternity with his true love Phylis, in the caring hands of our Lord.
