Obituary for Laura 'Jean' Kutz (Orr)

It is with profound sadness that the family of Mrs. Laura ‘Jean’ Kutz announce her peaceful passing on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at the age of 98 years. She was born at Cater, Saskatchewan on May 29, 1923. There were many stories about growing up on the homestead and going to school in the one room schoolhouse. It was around 1940 when she left home and took the train to Arthur, Ontario. Jean lived with her Grandmother Orr and her aunts, during this time. She worked in the Munitions Factory in Ajax, Ontario, putting detonators on the bombs during the war. She also lived and worked in Toronto for a few years. Jean returned home and later met the love of her life, Bob Kutz, in 1945, and they were married in February 1946. After living in a few places, they settled in Grande Prairie, Alberta, where they raised their four children. When Bob retired in 1975, they moved back to Cater, then in 1995, to Glaslyn, Saskatchewan. After Bob passed away in 2010, Jean moved to Red Deer, Alberta, to be closer to family. She and her daughter, Donna, travelled to many places and had some fun adventures together. Her most memorable holiday was going to Mexico; her first and only time out of Canada. Jean loved to sew and made many different craft projects. She was very proud of the quilts that she made for all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Each one was different and very special. She was an avid reader until her eyesight diminished and she often recited poems, and sang songs, she had learned over the years. Jean was a source of information for many topics and shared her knowledge with us in many conversations over the years. Family was very important to her and she loved any opportunity she had to chat and visit with them. Jean lived a long and full life and loved her family “with all her heart”. Jean will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Dale Kutz, Carl Kutz (Susan), her daughter, Donna Camphaug (Kelvin), and her son-in-law, Garry Angen; her grandchildren, Jason (Beril), Robyn (Ian), Carla, Jeff (Tonya), Elaina (Albert), Kareena, Tracy, Darren, Karen (Curtis), Darcy (Carmen), Jessica (Charlie); her seventeen great grandchildren and her one great great grandson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Jean was predeceased by her loving husband of sixty-four years, Bob, a daughter, Lynn Angen, a son-in-law, Barry Camphaug, a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Kutz, her parents, Robert and Laura Orr and her brothers and sisters. The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the Innisfail Health Center for their care and compassion. A Celebration of Life and a Family Graveside Service will be held at the Medstead Cemetery, Medstead, Saskatchewan in the Summer of 2022. If desired, Memorial Donations in Jean’s honor may be made directly to a Charity of the Donor’s choice or to The Foundation Fighting Blindness at www.fightingblindness.org.
