Obituary for Knut "Bert" Dagobert Seehawer

It is with heavy hearts and thankfulness for a well lived life the family of Knut (Bert) Seehawer announced
his passing on September 25, 2021 at the age of 90 years. Bert was born July 2, 1931 in West Prussia to
Herman and Sophia Seehawer. In his 20’s Bert and his older sister Gudrun left war torn Germany and immigrated to Canada. His first job in Canada was working on a farm in Southern Alberta. In 1955 Bert met Jeanne at a dance hall and got married in 1957. In 1958 their son Grant was born, 1960 another son Mark and 1963 a daughter Heather. Bert and Jeanne built a home in Calgary where they lived most of their lives. Bert was very much an outdoors man and summers were spent camping and riding trials motorcycles with his kids along the eastern slopes of Alberta. Bert went to SAIT and completed an auto mechanic and welder trades tickets. He became well known for outstanding wheel aligning of heavy trucks at Standens Springs. He moved onto Imperial Oil Esso three star service center where over the years he was an auto mechanic, service manager and dyno technician. After retiring he became self employed welding various projects, raising cows, logging and selling firewood. Bert had an incredible talent for building in metal and was ingenious with integrating metal projects with mechanical applications. Bert and Jeanne moved from Calgary to Cremona where he became involved in the volunteer fire department for several years. There he implemented procedures that improved efficiency in fire and rescue operations. Bert was an active member of the Masonic Lodge in Calgary, Carstairs and Didsbury. In the late 90’s Bert and Jeanne moved to Olds where they were socially active in the community. In Olds Bert started participating in Vintage Tractor pulls competing all over central Alberta. His welding and mechanical abilities helped him restore a 1956 John Deere Cat and a 1949 McCormick-Deering tractor into award winning pulling machines. Bert is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Jeanne; son Mark (Charlotte) Seehawer; daughter Heather (Tim) Wall of Powell River; and grandchildren Jennifer (David) Dickson of Airdrie, Talia (Kevin) Hume of Calgary and Samual Seehawer of Calgary. He is predeceased by his son Grant Seehawer and sister Gudrun Sperling. A celebration of Bert’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Alberta Cancer Foundation. Heartland Funeral Services Ltd., Olds entrusted with arrangements. 403-507-8610
