Obituary for Keith Edward Huehn

Mr. Keith Edward Huehn, our husband, dad, grandpa and papa, passed away at the Innisfail Health Centre on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at the age of 80 years. Keith was born and raised on a farm in Kitchener Waterloo, Ontario. He was one of six siblings. In 1959, he came to Alberta on vacation and never returned, landing a job as a meat cutter at the IGA, where his sister worked. He met Barb in the coffee room (love at first sight). In May of 1961, they were married and raised three children, Susanne, Rodney, and Dennis. Calgary, Edmonton, Didsbury, Red Deer, Gull Lake, Bentley, Morningside, and Innisfail were all called home, where so many memories were made. Hockey and curling in the winter, ball in the summer and any sport that was on TV, were his passions. Whether playing, coaching or cheering, you knew his presence. Any family gathering you were sure to see the cards out and maybe the furniture moved for dancing. Fishing, gardening, and woodworking were just a few of his other favorite hobbies. A Butcher by trade for over sixty years, BUT family was his pride and joy - his number one priority. He was a man of strong faith and work ethic; always there to lend a hand, and a mentor to many … his voice and infectious belly laugh often announced his presence. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of sixty-one years, Barbara, his three children, Susanne Huehn-Rude of Camrose, Rodney (Charlotte) of Qualicum Beach, British Columbia and Dennis (Michelle) of Carstairs, his ten grandchildren and his ten great grandchildren, Christine Fishman (Mark), Maverick and Ruby; Jarett Rude (Maria), Banner and Maxwell; Aleisha Hockley (Trent), Valens and Kaiden (Josh), Mikaila Rude (Nick); Samuel Huehn (Shalyn), Annabelle and Ainsley; Alex Huehn, Jessica Huehn (Jeff), Dylan and Aria; Kyle Huehn (Maddy), Matthew Huehn, Paul Huehn. He will also be sadly missed by his brother, Donnie Huehn (Ginny); his sisters, Rose (Dave) Whitmar and Violet Rank and his auntie, Irene Kroph, all of Ontario, and his sister-in-law, Pat Winters of Alberta; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Keith was predeceased by his father, Lester, his mother, Hilda (Hartman), a brother, Gary and a sister, Evelyn (brother-in-law, Ted LeMasurier). A Celebration of Keith’s Life will be held at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 18 Selkirk Blvd., Red Deer, Alberta on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Don Hennig Officiating. If desired, Memorial Donations in Keith’s honor may be made directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 100, 119 - 14 Street NW, Calgary, Alberta, T2N 1Z6 or at www.heartandstroke.ca, or to Stephens Ministries at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church at www.mclcrd.org.
