Mrs. Joyce Doreen Grant (nee Johannson) of Innisfail, Alberta passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Hospice surrounded by family on Sunday, March 12, 2023 at the age of 87 years. She was born on April 25, 1935 to Armann and Eva Johannson in Markerville, Alberta. She was lovingly raised on a farm by her parents, along with four brothers and two sisters - where rumour has it, she may have lost a doll or two to the pigs. Joyce attended school in Markerville and moved to Innisfail to work at AGT. It was in Innisfail that she met and married the love of her life, William ‘Bill’ Grant, while he was working as a lifeguard and a meat cutter. Joyce and Bill went on to have two children, Mark and Lori. After briefly residing in Red Deer, Alberta, they moved back to Innisfail and Joyce worked at Michener Centre (twenty-eight years), Fred’s Food Market (several years), and Dolly’s Variety Store and Bill went back to school, obtained two journeyman tickets, and spent his career working as a plumber and a gas fitter. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Mark and Lori (Darrell); her granddaughters, Lorali and Kristy (Aleks); her great-grandson, Jaxon, who loved his Gigi dearly; her brother, Stan (Ruth); her brothers-in-law, Johnny and Alistair (Sue); and several nieces and nephews. Joyce was predeceased by her husband, Bill; her parents, Armann and Eva; her sisters, Eileen (Derry) and Violet (Gus); her brothers, Chris, Albert, and Roy; and her sisters-in-law, Margaret (Doug), Betty (Mario), and Shirley.
In honour of Joyce’s wishes, there will be a private family interment in Innisfail at a later date. Joyce’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Red Deer Hospice for the extraordinary care she received in her final days.
