Obituary for James Reginald "Reg" Barnes

Reg is survived by his two sons, Rick (Irene) Barnes and their sons Kevin, Samuel, and Zachary of Innisfail and Tim (Cherie) Barnes and their children Joshua and Courtney of Cochrane. Long time companion, Betty Pasztor of Innisfail. Brother Bob (Doreen) Barnes and sisters Sadie Casely of Stettler and Dorothy (Doug) Noad of Stony Plain and his sister-in-law Ester Shell of Calgary. Along with many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and countless friends.

He was predeceased by his infant son Kevin Barnes and the mother of his children, Lila Barnes; his parents James and Hilda (Fleming) Barnes, sisters Evelyn (Edwin) Wilson, Louise (Bud) Wakefield, Marion (Hugh) McLarty, brother Ron (Annette) Barnes, brother Bill Barnes, brothers-in-law Don Buehler, Ray Shell, Cecil Casely, sisters-in-law Ruby (Les) Kells and Norma (Emil) Klinger.

Born in Coronation, Reg lived on the family farm at Brownfield until he relocated to the Battle Bend area where he met Lila. They were married in 1950 and moved to Hardisty in 1960 where their sons Kevin, Rick and Tim were born. Reg lived and worked in the Hardisty area until 2006 when he and Betty moved to Innisfail to be close to his grandchildren. In 2019 he moved to The Hamlets in Red Deer where he resided until his death.

Reg will be remembered as a man who loved working on the farm and the life that went with it. His favorite pastimes were racing pony chuckwagons, rodeos, baseball and hockey. He was a volunteer for many years with the Hardisty Rodeo Association and thoroughly enjoyed all the projects he worked on at the rodeo grounds over the years. In his later years in Innisfail he enjoyed helping friends with their farming. He also enjoyed walking around Innisfail, many times ending up at the COOP to see if Rick was working and to visit with the bakery staff.
