Isabel Marie Baker (nee Dewar)
Isabel Marie Baker, formerly of Edmonton, passed away peacefully March 19, 2023 at the Bow View Manor, Calgary. Isabel was born in Leduc and spent her formative years on the home farm with parents, 4 sisters and 2 brothers. She married Dennis in 1953 and they settled in Edmonton where they raised 2 daughters. Isabel worked in several banks as a teller, then started with The Royal Trust Company where she became a pensions administrator until her retirement in 1990. After she retired, Isabel and Dennis spent many happy years volunteering at the Good Samaritan, visiting BC and watching their family grow. Isabel and Dennis moved to Aspen Ridge Lodge, Didsbury in 2014. After Dennis’s passing, Isabel continued to live at the Lodge until 2022 when, after an illness, she moved to Bow View Manor. Keeping in touch was very important to Isabel. Writing letters, phoning family and friends and sharing all the latest news helped to keep her connected to the community and people that she loved. Isabel was predeceased by her sister Winifred Borys, brothers Donald and Morley Dewar, four brothers-in-law, three nephews, son-in-law James van Nostrand and her loving husband Dennis Baker. She is survived by three sisters and 2 sisters-in-law of Leduc. Isabel will be missed by two daughters Gwen Weber of Airdrie and Lynne Baker-van Nostrand of Chilliwack, BC; six grandchildren Chris Weber, Pam (Jason) Talbot, Kim Smith, Amber Weber, Benjamin van Nostrand, Jacob van Nostrand and partners; five great grandchildren Jeremy, Isaiah and Isabella Smith, Ezekiel and Kiralee Talbot; many nieces and nephews in Canada and England and her many dear friends. A celebration of Isabel’s life will be held at a later date in Edmonton. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to your favourite charity in Isabel’s name.
