Obituary for Herbert Richard Peck

PECK, HERBERT RICHARD
1925 – 2020

The family of Herbert (Herb) Richard Peck would like to announce his passing at the age of 95 after several years of declining health. Herb passed away on November 30, 2020 in Red Deer. Herb was born on May 7, 1925 in Olds. He was the eldest son of John Robert Peck and Elizabeth Ann Peck and had 2 brothers and 3 sisters. Herb grew up on his parent’s farm, west of Bowden and attended Red Lodge school. After a few years working at a service station in Bowden, his boss signed him up for an automotive mechanics apprenticeship setting him on his life long career. He married Doris Cone on September 27, 1949. They lived in Bowden where they had 2 sons, Richard and Garry. In 1956, they moved to Calgary where they had another son Randy who passed away at 3 days old. While in Calgary, Herb worked at T. H. Peacocks and then Hutton’s Automotive until 1979. He developed many life long friendships with colleagues and co-workers. In 1979, Herb and Doris moved to Abbotsford, B.C. but returned to Calgary in 1982 and Herb worked at Fort Ignition until his retirement in 1990. Doris passed away in 1991. Herb moved to Innisfail in 1992 and on July 3, 1993 married life long friend Ina Oszli. In Innisfail he was very active in the Seniors Drop-In and ASCSR (Alberta Senior Citizen Sports and Recreation) for which he received a certificate of accomplishment from the Premier of Alberta. He enjoyed camping, gardening, wood working and dancing with the ladies at the seniors Saturday Jams. Herb was predeceased by his parents, brothers Harold and Frank, sister Alice, first wife Doris and infant son Randy. He is survived by his loving wife Ina; sons Richard (Sandy), Garry (Solveig); stepchildren Iris (Gary)White, Donald (Faye) Oszli, Della (Grant) Lastiwka; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; sisters Mabel Cunningham and Dorothy Potter; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and other staff of Unit 33 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital for the care and kindness they gave Herb over the month of November. A Celebration of Herb’s Life will be held in the spring of 2021, with the date and location to be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes in Herb’s name may be made to the Innisfail Senior’s Drop In Centre or charity of choice.
