Elsie Helen Jackson
Elsie Helen Jackson, (Orlicky) was born on January 4th 1932 in Calgary Alberta. She was the youngest daughter of Joseph and Mary Orlicky and was the first member of the family born in Canada.
She was predeceased by her parents, Mary and Joseph, Her 3 sisters, Mary, Vilma, and Anne as well as several nephews and nieces.
She was an avid skier, swimmer and loved to play hockey when she was young. Elsie had a very distinguished career as an executive secretary. She was involved with the Calgary Stampede Board of directors where she was responsible for organizing the Calgary Stampede Parade for several years. She was also the secretary for the founding members of Spruce Meadows.
Elsie had 2 children. Jim and Joanne.
She met Arthur Henry Jackson on a blind date in 1974 and they were married on May 24th 1975. After moving to Olds, Elsie maintained her volunteering spirit. She belonged to the Innis Lake Ladies Club for several year. She was a director for the Olds Co-op Association for 2 terms. She also held the position of secretary for the Foothills Gas Co-op Board of Directors for several years.
Art introduced Elsie to the sport of curling, and they would both curl on several leagues each year. They loved to go camping and fishing and they traveled extensively. They went to Hawaii, Mexico, Europe, and they drove to Alaska. They had several trips to Las Vegas. For many years they would have an annual fishing trip to Lesser Slave Lake with close family friends.
Elsie is survived by her husband Arthur Jackson, Her son Jim Whyte (Tara) Daughter Joanne Whyte, Grandson Arthur Joseph Whyte, Grandson Tate Adams, Granddaughter Debby Whyte, Great Grandsons Will Cochrane, and Cody Cochrane. Granddaughter Katelynn Pero (Chris) Great granddaughter Emma Pero. Elsie is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations should be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
