Obituary for Donald "Tick" Gordon Walker

Mr. Donald Gordon “Tick” Walker of Olds, Alberta passed away surrounded by his family at
his home May 18, 2022 at the age of 80 years. Gordon was born December 10, 1941
in Endiang Alberta. Gordon attended Endiang school, then went on to Olds College where he graduated from the Agricultural program. Gordon met Yvonne Schilling from Halkirk Alberta and were married on September 29, 1961. Daughter Lynne and Son Vince were born shortly after. Gordon took a job buying grain in Endiang and Fleet Alberta and then moved on to working for Federated Pipelines which led them to move to Swan Hills Alberta where they resided until 1971. Gordon and Yvonne wanted to start farming and purchased a small farm outside of Camp Creek while he continued to work for Federated Pipelines. Gordon always had a love for farming and wanted to put his Old’s Agricultural program to use. In November 1973 he and Yvonne bought the Schatz farm at Sangudo where together they ran a dairy, grain, and cow/calf operation. In 1997 they sold the dairy and purchased a lodge on the Alaska Highway Mile 721 (Walkers Continental Divide). Gordon was proud of what he built there, it went from a Restaurant, gas station to being a one stop shop. RV stalls, motel and even a bar. Gordon loved hearing all the stories from travelers stopping in. He met a lot of good people up there which turned into long time friendships. Gordon liked to fish and be in the outdoors. Gordon and Yvonne retired from the lodge in 2004 and moved to Red Deer and later moved to Bowden in 2009. Yvonne (wife of 49 years) passed away in February 2011, he then thought Olds would be a good place to live where he meet his companion Ellen Wilton who was with him up until his passing.
