Obituary for Diana Seymour

Diana Seymour (nee Fox) passed away at 80 years of age in Olds after a long illness on 10/06/2023. She was predeceased by her husband Vincent Seymour on 29/10/2021. She will be missed by her daughter Susanna and son Michael (Karine) and her grandchildren Brett, Trey, Julia, Alexis, and Lucas.

She was born in Vancouver on March 19, 1943, but spent most of her formative years in Nacmine and Drumheller, Alberta. She also spent two years in Calgary living with her extended family including her grandmother, grand-aunts, and grand-uncles when her mother was ill. Diana said that her grandmother's house was always full of music as her mother's family had emigrated from Wales with its strong musical tradition to Calgary.

After high school, she took up nursing training. It was at the student residence that she met two life-long best friends: Eleanor Powell and Betty Delorme who continued to be a support for her after she was diagnosed with a probable case of Alzheimer's disease. She had a position in the Canadian Air Force where she had the rank of Flying Officer. She met her future husband Vince on the back steps of a house party in Calgary. They were married in 1964 in Barrie, Ontario with Michael arriving in 1965 and Susanna in 1968. Diana had to resign her commission in the Air Force because she had married an enlisted man.

After four years in Germany with the army, the family moved to Wainwright, Alberta in 1971. Vince and Diana took the risky decision for Vince to return to post-secondary school in 1974 and moved to Edmonton. Diana supported the family with a full-time job working at Lynwood Clinic in long-term care. Vince earned his diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology from NAIT in 1977 and the family moved to Whitehorse, Yukon that same year. While Vince pursued a career with MOT Canada and then Northwestel, Diana started working on the pediatric ward at Whitehorse General Hospital. She enjoyed being with children in general and was amazed by how quickly they could heal. She then went on to work for the Family Practice Unit and then Klondyke Medical clinics in Whitehorse before they eventually retired to Breton, Alberta in 2003. They moved to Olds in 2008.

In retirement, she and Vince kept active by participating in the Anglican Church and the Royal Canadian Legion. Diana also enjoyed aquafit despite always having problems controlling her "pool noodle". Above all, she was a gentle quiet force in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives, providing them with much support.
