Obituary for Brenda Mae Albrecht

Brenda Albrecht, of Wimborne, Alberta passed away with her close family and friends at her side on May 27, 2023 at the age of 71 years. Brenda will be deeply missed by her loving husband Wayne and her children Jaime Albrecht-Rasmussen (John Rasmussen) and Shane Albrecht (Tasha Albrecht). Brenda was a beloved grandma to Lucas, Reid, Zack, Jackson, Silas and Isabel. Brenda was predeceased by her parents, Floyd and Gretta Mathers. She is survived by her one sister Shirley Mashon (Ken Mashon) and two brothers Doug Mathers (Brenda Mathers) and Dave Mathers.

Brenda was born on December 9, 1951 in Hanna, Alberta and shortly after their family moved to Pollockville, Alberta. Their family did lots of camping and fishing during the summers. She lived in Pollockville until she moved to Calgary. Brenda would come up to the Wimborne area to babysit for Aunt Joan; it was then that she first met Wayne. In high school, Brenda worked for Hudson Bay Gas & Oil in Cessford and then transferred to Calgary when she moved. Joyce and Brenda would make many trips from Calgary up to the farm. Eventually Brenda took a job with AGT and moved back to Hanna.

Brenda married Wayne in May 1974 and moved to the family farm near Wimborne. Wayne and Brenda ran a successful mixed farm operation until Wayne’s Dad passed away. They switched over to an extensive hog operation. Another change happened years later from the hog operation to cow/calf and then eventually to backgrounding feeder cattle. During all of this they still managed the crop side of the farm business as well. They worked hard on the farm, but made time for fun too. In the winter the family liked to go snowmobiling together and in the summer there were camping trips, Sunday drives and holidays to BC. Brenda transferred to AGT in Red Deer. Once her kids were born, she stayed at home and worked on the farm and babysat other kids in the area.

When she went back to work, she worked at various jobs, Crossroads Gas Coop, Torrington Fuel & Service, Torrington Fertilizer & Stampede Steel. She also worked at and later managed the ATB branch office in Torrington. During her time at ATB she worked in Trochu, Three Hills, Olds, Innisfail and Red Deer branches. Her last job was at Whispering Pines in Pine Lake. She loved working with everyone there and worked right up until she wasn’t able to anymore.

Brenda loved to bake, work in her garden, play cards, go shopping, travel, spend time with neighbors and friends and spend as much time with her grandchildren as possible. In later years, we spent time as a family camping and quadding out west. Brenda also enjoyed the day trips her and Wayne would take on the motorbike.

Brenda always had a smile on her face and had so much love to give, especially when it came to her grand kids. She loved to do crafts with them, play outside with them and spoil them with treats and little gifts. They brought so much joy to her life and she never passed up an opportunity to be with them.

She also loved to travel and was fortunate enough to visit Mexico, Cuba and Hawaii. Her travelling companions, Eric, Paulette and Ruth made her adventures all the more memorable.

A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes in memory of Brenda may be made to the Alberta Children’s Hospital.
