Obituary for Anne Elizabeth Thornton

Thornton
Anne passed away peacefully Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Olds Long Term Care. Anne was born June 27, 1931 in Calgary, Alberta to Clara and John McDonald. At about age five, she moved with her family to a farm in the Springside district northwest of Didsbury. From a young age, she contributed to the expanding farm operation by doing chores and milking cows. She attended the traditional one room school at Springside about three quarters of a mile away from home where she was an excellent student and attained a grade nine education. At the age of eighteen, she moved to Calgary and lived with her sisters Jean, Joan and Clara. She was a diligent employee at the Palace Bakery baking buns, bread, etc. She met her husband, Keith, through her sister Clara who was dating his brother John. They fell in love and were married May 3, 1952. In 1956, they left Calgary and moved with their three children to the Thornton homestead at Sedalia, Alberta. In spring of 1957, they purchased a dairy farm in the Westerdale district not far from where she grew up. Together, as a team, they grew the business and raised a family of eight children. Anne loved the farm and the life it gave her but would have been happy wherever her family was. She loved family, reading, learning, gardening…. She was predeceased by her beloved son, Kelvin, in 1991. To mourn her passing are; husband of 68 years, Keith; children, Cheryl, Bev, Donna, Darlene, Keith, Kerry & Loralie; thirteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grand children and extended family and friends. A heartfelt thank you to the staff at Olds Long Term Care for all their care and kindness to her while she resided there. Her funeral will take place at Heartland Funeral Services Chapel in Olds, 5226-45 Street. Interment will follow at Westerdale Cemetery. There will be a time of fellowship and refreshments at the Westerdale Hall after that. In lieu of flowers a memorial tribute can be made to Global Missions Inc. at Box 934, North Battleford, SK S9A 2Z3 or to the charity of choice.
