Obituary for Allan Coutts

Allan Coutts, 75, was met with open arms by his Lord and Saviour on September 13, 2022 at Didsbury Hospital Continuing Care. Allan will always be lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Judy Coutts; daughter Lisa Bauer (Lorin) and grandchildren Mykaela, Ryan and McKenna; son John Coutts (Deann) and grandchildren Grace, Brooke and Ethan; and son Brian Coutts (Allison) and children Alaina, Zane and Nate; brothers David Coutts (Nolly) and George Coutts (Gloria); and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents John and Christina Coutts and sister Nancy Johnson.

Allan, son of John and Christina Coutts, was born June 29, 1947 in Edmonton, AB. At age six, Allan moved to the Bow Island, AB area when his parents purchased a quarter section of land. Allan attended school in Bow Island until 1964 and then joined the Royal Canadian Navy. On June 17, 1967, while stationed in Esquimalt, BC, he married the love of his life, Judith E. Jensen. In September 1967, they moved to Vermilion, AB, where Allan attended Vermilion Agricultural College to study Hog Production and after graduating managed various hog operations in Western Canada. Allan and Judy were blessed with three children, Lisa, John and Brian. In 1978 they purchased their first farm and built a 100 sow farrow-to-finish operation west of Lacombe, AB. The family returned in 1982 to Allan's home area of Bow Island where he purchased another hog operation to be close to his mother, brothers and their families after his father passed away. Allan started an investment and life insurance business in Bow Island in 1994. After selling the farm in 1996, they moved to town. In 2005 they relocated to Didsbury, AB.

Allan lived a very adventurous and fulfilling life before he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. He was such a straight thinking man and was a founding member of the Energy Users Association of Alberta. Neighbours, friends and strangers were often recipients of his lending hand. Allan was very active in the churches he attended. He served as an elder, trustee and worked with youth in the Christian Service Brigade Program. Many late nights were spent on special occasions playing Monopoly and Risk with family. Allan had a great love of sports whether it be watching hockey and football (Edmonton of course), playing basketball, football and baseball with family, and always enjoyed a round or two of golf.

Allan’s loyalty, kindness and humour will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

All are welcome to celebrate Allan’s life on Monday, September 19, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Zion Evangelical Missionary Church (802 Secondary Hwy 582, Didsbury, AB).
In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Parkinson Association Alberta (#120 6835 Railway ST SE, Calgary, AB T2H 2V6) or Lifewater Canada (457 Heather CR, Thunder Bay, ON P7E 5L1).
