Obituary for Alice Lynne "Lynne" van Doornum (Wilde)

Mrs. Lynne van Doornum passed away peacefully at Sunset Manor on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at the age of 70 years, after a brief battle with cancer. Lynne was born on March 21, 1952 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to Boyd and Gladys Wilde. The youngest of three sisters, Lynne was always active and curious. She loved spending time on the family farm and in her teen years, going to Camp Christopher, first as a camper and then as camp cook. She moved to Calgary, Alberta for three years before returning to Saskatchewan to marry Rudy van Doornum on September 11, 1976. Patricia joined the family the following year. In September of 1985, Lynne and Patricia joined Rudy in Innisfail, Alberta, after he started working at the Bowden Institution. Lynne became an active member of the Innisfail Curling Club and St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. Later, she served as President of Innisfail Meals on Wheels and often as a fill-in driver. She will be remembered for her sharp sense of humor and infectious laugh. Celebrating Lynne’s life are her beloved daughter, Patricia (Mike), her nieces, Carol Laewetz, Sherry Hoffer and their families, her sister, Beth, and numerous friends. Lynne was predeceased by her father, Boyd (1991), her mother, Gladys (1999), her sister, Jean (2005), and her husband of forty-six years, Rudy (2022). Lynne’s family would like to thank the staff at both Sunset Manor and the Innisfail Health Centre for their amazing care and kindness in the last few months. A Celebration of Life for Lynne and Rudy van Doornum, who passed away in September 2022, will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 4716 - 50 Avenue, Innisfail, Alberta on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that donations be made in Lynne’s honor to Innisfail Meals on Wheels or the Alberta Cancer Foundation at www.albertacancer.ca.
