Obituary for Adeline Louise Fedyk
With immense love and heavy hearts, we share that Adeline Louise Fedyk (nee Anderson) passed away with family by her side on January 11, 2024 at the age of 88.
She was born on March 5, 1935 on the family farm south of Stenen, Saskatchewan being the fourth of six children. She attended school in the country and graduated grade 12 at Sturgis, Sask. After high school she went to Business College in Regina, Sask. and then got her first job with the Motor Vehicles Branch in Regina. It was here that she got engaged to her future husband, William (Bill) Fedyk. They married in June of 1955 and moved to Edmonton, Alberta where Bill began his career in Electrical Construction. Adeline got a new job as an Inventory Control Clerk and worked until 1957 when their first child was born. She then was a stay-at-home mother with their four children until 1980 when she went to SAIT and took legal courses and then worked as a Paralegal until her retirement in 1994.
Adeline was a wonderful seamstress who took pleasure in creating many of her children’s clothing in their younger years. A superb cook, her meals, baking and warm hospitality were shared by many.
During her school years, Adeline was active in many sports, but her main interest was in fastball, playing both pitcher and short-stop positions. William was transferred to Calgary in 1964. It was in Calgary that their fourth child was born. She then took up ice curling in 1969 and played in a ladies curling league, firstly with the Flare Square Curling League and then with the Ladies League at the Calgary Curling Club.
In 1994 Bill and Adeline moved to their new acreage retirement home at Fallen Timber. She then started doing ceramics with a neighbor and also got involved with the Sundre Senior’s club. She joined the Alberta 55 Plus group in 2000 and she and Bill were involved in the many activities they offered, and were quite successful in winning many medals. These games took them to different locations across Canada where they competed in bocce in the Canada Senior Games winning Gold and Silver medals. Adeline also competed in cycling at the Provincial level where she won silver and gold medals in the Canada Senior Games. She was on the Board of Directors with Zone 2 of the Alberta 55 Plus as an Area Director, Publicity Director and as the zone secretary until she retired in 2015.
She enjoyed travelling and had many memorable holidays to such places as the Caribbean, Hawaii, Australia, Europe, the Nordic Countries and throughout Canada and the USA.
Adeline is survived by her husband Bill, and four children, Rhonda Spindler of Cochrane, Randy Fedyk of Calgary, Trevor Fedyk of Calgary, and Terri-Lynn Clement (Marc) of Fallen Timber, five grandchildren, Brianne Fedyk of White Rock, BC, Alyssa McKay (Kelly) of Calgary, AB, Kristen Spindler of Calgary, AB, Kurt Spindler of Cochrane, AB and Lauren Spindler of Lethbridge, AB. One great-grandchild, Axel McKay (Alyssa & Kelly).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the charity of your choice. A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring.
