LITZ, Jerry
1941 – 2019
Mr. Gerald Dennis ‘Jerry’ Litz passed away peacefully, following a hard-fought battle with cancer, at Innisfail, Alberta on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at the age of 78 years. Jerry was born on January 30, 1941 at Calgary, Alberta, to loving parents who soon moved the family to a farm near Wimborne, Alberta and later to Red Deer, Alberta. At the age of sixteen, Jerry became a Plumber by Trade and worked in this capacity, until shortly before his passing. Jerry married his first love, Connie in 1966 and settled in the Red Deer Area; where their marriage produced three beautiful children. After leaving Red Deer, Jerry and Connie moved their family to a farm near Condor, Alberta; where he lived his dream of farming for nearly forty years. Jerry lost his wife, Connie to cancer in 1988; he found love a second time, marrying Phyllis in 1989; welcoming her three children into the family. Following retirement, Jerry and Phyllis moved to Innisfail, Albera; where he would spend the final years of his life. Jerry’s family and friends remember him as a kind and giving soul, a father figure to many, and dearly loved by all he met. From a young age, Jerry demonstrated a talent and love for music. He played with numerous bands across the decades: most notably, locally-famous group “The Dots”. Jerry will be long remembered by many in his familiar spot on stage, plucking his red Stratocaster Bass Guitar. Jerry will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Phyllis (née Ray) Litz; his children, April Litz, Dana (Mark) Baron and Brad (Jacqueline) Litz; his grandchildren, Josh, Cody, and Riley McLean, Andrew, Jesse, Lexi, and Trevor Baron, Madison, Jacob and Sawyer Litz; his stepchildren, Shauna Arthur, Kevin (Roxanne) Arthur and Wes (Shelley) Arthur, and their children, Justin and Cadence Arthur, Abigail, James and Ruby Arthur and Jillian and Ashley Arthur; as well as his mother-in-law, Evelyn Menzies, his brothers and sisters-in-law, Lou-Anne Gowing, Carol (Art) Embury, Bob (Sheila) Menzies, Bob (Gerry) Bryant, Chester (Naomi) Ketchum, Raymond (Colleen) Ray, Victor (Barb) Ray, Floyd (Terri) Ray and Hazel Ray, and his nephew, Darrin (Kim) Gowing; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other loved ones. Jerry was predeceased by his first wife, Connie (née Menzies) Litz, his parents, Jake and Martha Litz, a brother, Robert ‘Butch’ Litz, his fathers and mother-in-law, Robert Menzies, Harold and Frida Ray, his sisters-in-law, Wendy Bryant and Marlene Ketchum and a brother-in-law, Les Ray.

A Celebration of Jerry’s Life will be held at the Eckville Community Hall, 5302 – 52 Street, Eckville, Alberta on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. If desired, Memorial Donations in Jerry’s honor may be made directly to the Red Deer Royals Show Band, Box 84, Red Deer, Alberta, T4N 5E7, in memory of Jerry’s lifelong passion for music. Condolences may be sent or viewed at Arrangements in care of Heartland Funeral Services Ltd., Innisfail, Alberta.

Phyllis & Family,
It is with very sad & heavy hearts that we learn of the passing of Jerry & on behalf of myself & my Family members, I send sincere condolences to you & all those other Family & Friends who also greatly mourn the loss of Jerry.
Our world has lost a "very great, giving, gentle spirited man" who will be mourned by many of those who had known, associated, & interacted with him during his lifetime. My late brother, Hugh Kelly always spoke highly of Jerry as they were connected by way of their intense "love of music & entertaining others on many occasions" when they would all be entertaining together at countless & various functions. "Many strings were strummed" during all those years when they entertained more people than we can even begin to count now!!
Our thoughts & prayers are with all of you at this very sad & difficult time & may the many cherished memories that your loved one has left with you be forever remembered by & of great comfort to you in easing your pain & sorrows of losing Jerry. May he now Rest In Peace, free of pain, & in the company of all those "Great People" who predeceased him but who he is with again now.
I'm sorry I will not be able to make the "Celebration of Life" for Jerry on Nov. 27th, however, my thoughts & prayers for peace & comfort will be with you all on this day. Had it not been winter & having to travel the Rogers Pass to get there, I would be there for sure if I could. I feel very blessed to have met & spent a number of great experiences, ordinary & musical, with all of you during the past years. Thank you Jerry for all your contributions, music & others, which will now be my memories, will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
Take care, may peace be with you & sending blessings to each & every one of you.

Joanne (nee Kelly) & Norm Long
