Obituary for Rosemarie Mariak

Mariak, Rosemarie
(nee Hofmann)
November 5, 1939 – October 10, 2019

It is with hearts full of sadness that we announce the death of Rosemarie Mariak, who passed away peacefully in Red Deer Regional Hospital after a stroke. Rosemarie will be missed by her children and their spouses; Susi and Leo, Debbie and Brian, Ken and Angie, Tammy and Terry, sister Hannelore and brother-in-law George, her grandchildren; Amanda, Angela, Chad, Trevor, Jennifer, Christopher, Ceanna and Cassidy, great grandchildren; Tricia, Ted, Noah, Harwyn, Vandyn, Aubrey and Olivia, as well as nieces, nephews, family and friends. She is predeceased by her husband Richard, brother Walter, parents; Fritz and Aloisia, and granddaughter Patricia.

Rosemarie was born November 5, 1939 in Sudetenland Germany and in 1954, her family of five decided to immigrate to Canada, settling in Calgary, Alberta. Rosemarie met Richard at the Calgary Zoo and they became inseparable, marrying in 1960 and starting a family together. For many years they lived in Calgary and farmed weekends on a quarter section in the Bergen area. In 1974 they moved to the farm permanently, working hard and loving the peace and quiet of the countryside. Rosemarie was an active member of the community, volunteering with the Bergen Ladies Aid Society and attending the Faith Lutheran Church in Sundre.

Rosemarie was admired for her gardening skills, cooking and baking and being a resourceful farm wife. To those who knew her best she was Rose or Rosie, with lifelong friends across western Canada and Germany. She lived in the moment, was honest and loyal, believed in staying positive, even in difficult times. She was the heart of her family and loved with an open heart.
