1947 – 2019

Mr. Peter Graham Rawlins, passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Hospice on Friday, October 4, 2019 at the age of 72 years. Peter was born in Prestatyn, Wales on May 5, 1947. Peter was a butcher for twenty-five years, until he retired at the age of sixty, due to a diagnosis of cancer. After his diagnosis, Peter spent the majority of his time singing karaoke at pubs, all over Central Alberta. He said music was the best medicine. He was known as “The Karaoke King.” Peter was courageous and strong during his twelve and a half year battle with cancer. He was an incredible role model to everyone around him and was living proof of what it means to never give up. Peter was the kindest, most loving spouse, father, brother, uncle, grandparent and friend, one could ever hope for.

Peter will be missed by so many.

Peter will be lovingly remembered by his spouse, Elaine Van Dusen of Red Deer, Alberta, his six children; Dean (Laura) Rawlins of Red Deer, Julie (Ray) McKinnon of Red Deer County, Megan (Chris) Dade of Red Deer, David (Becky) Rawlins of Red Deer, Kevin (Jen) Rawlins of Penhold, and Susie (Tim) Giesbrecht, also of Penhold; daughter-in-law Tanya Rawlins; and his twenty-one grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He will also be sadly missed by two brothers, two sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. Peter was predeceased by his wife, Lynne Rawlins of Penhold, Alberta, a son, Paul Rawlins of Lacombe, Alberta, his parents, Harry and Megan Rawlins of Prestatyn, Wales, two brothers, Barry and Trevor Rawlins of Prestatyn Wales and a sister, Jill Rawlins of Prestatyn. A Celebration of Peter’s Life will be held at the Innisfail Legion Branch No. 104, 5108 – 49 Street, Innisfail, Alberta on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. If desired, Memorial Donations in Peter’s honor may be made directly to the Red Deer Hospice Society at

My sincerest condolences to the family of Peter Rawlins. I didn't know Peter personally but he was always smiling and in good spirits whenever I would see him at the Tom Baker. I booked his follow up appointments and although you see so many different faces each and every day some you just remember. He was always very kind and greeted with a smile that would just make a hard day that much easier

I met Peter in 1989. We talked daily at work. We grew up not far from each other and became good friends.

From brother Brian Rawlins, Wales, UK - a tribute to my brother Peter 'the Karaoke King'

They knew him well from the 'All I Ask of You' and 'Mrs Brown' etc. His fame spread far and wide whether he was singing about Elvis's 'Wooden Heart' or his plea to be 'Love me Tender'! He loved to sing about his lady 'Wild Thing'. Elvis might be the King of Rock n Roll but Pete was the best Karaoke King of all time!! Also, with his duets with his lady Elaine and Phantom of the Opera and Elaine's 'The race'? are especially in our hearts and a favourite of mine! We miss you Peter and much love and support to all the family in Canada. xx

sincere sympathy to the family. your parents used to come in to the Store in PENHOLD when I owned it. They were very good customers and I also used to see your DAD at the POST OFFICE before they moved it from Windsor Avenue. Your DAD will be missed by everyone who knew him.
