I knew Nelson from my days in Alberta with Brigade and Teepee Pole. He was one of those guys that helped define a place by his presence and character - that will be missed. He invested so much into the next generations, truly an example to many as well as an encouragement to those in the same ministry. He lived 2 Timothy 2:2 in his life. My condolences to Yvonne, the family and colleagues, whose day to day life is lessened as a result of his graduation to glory.

Now we trust in God to keep us Bright and Keen for Christ
Because we love Him, because we want to serve Him
Until we see Him face to face

President, Christian Service Brigade

It's a sad reality to see so many of our old SAIT "friends" pass away. Nelson always seemed to be so fit and hardy, but I guess we all have only a temporary lease on life; it just seems to me that Nelson's "lease" ended too soon. Nelson was always a friendly, affable and helpful colleague who really knew his stuff! We were lucky to have known him and we're saddened by his passing. …. Risdon Darwin

I've been having issues with my computer the past few days so I just learned of the tragic death of an exceptional colleague and friend. Nelson was very aware of the importance of good mental and physical health which made the learning of his death even more of a shock.
Nelson was a pleasure to be around and work with. I cannot state it any better than Jim did....he was indeed "a kind, gentle and intelligent human being". He will be missed by all of us who knew him. I plan to attend his memorial on Sunday July 21 to pay my respect.
Rest in Peace..........Wayne Dean

That's very sad. Such a wonderful human being! ….. Craig Maynard

I am indeed saddened to hear of Nelson’s passing... yes, Darwin, I agree - too short a ‘lease’ for sure. Nelson taught me as a student many moons ago, then became my office partner, mentor, co-instructor, and friend. I have many fond memories of teaching and working with this kind, gentle, intelligent man. Life is short... I’ve let too many months go by missing the retiree’s lunch and missing you all. ….. Jim Catley

We all are shocked about Nelson and so glad we were able to see him a few months ago.
Indeed he was as big a man as in proportion to what he didn't need to say. We were so privileged to have real gentlemen and scholars to help and mentor each other in Electronics.
But Nelson was one of a kind in mentoring, as a role model and friend. I don't think my analog mind would have shifted to digital without him…… Peter Risdahl

I would love to be with the group and share some fond memories with you all, but I will be out of the country. My respect for Nelson was the highest and my sympathies
go to his family. …..Wayne Gedlaman

Nelson was a scholar and a gentleman. Always ready to help others. I can still hear his “chuckle” after he heard something funny. …. Duane Bailey

Yvonne, as we sat around the table at Bob and Marilyn’s with you and Nelson
as well as Ken and Nova praying for one another, little did we think that Nelson
would be among the first of the group to see Jesus. May the Great Comforter
meet your every need.
Hugs to you. Jake and Carrol

Yvonne and Family. Our prayers are with you in the loss of Nelson. God will be faithful to you, even now. I know that, having experienced the loss of my father last year. I know the depth of hurt, but I am also thankful for the joy that we have in the midst of the hurt and loss of knowing that Nelson is with the Lord and that he has heard the most precious words - Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your master.

Thank you for sharing Nelson with me and countless other young men over the years. The time he invested in us has built us into men who are "bright and keen for Christ." I chuckle now at the times he shook his head in amazement at the silly things that we did or said. I smile as I think of the times he prayed with me and others. I marvel at the fine food he made on a number of campouts. I am hurting over the loss and knowing that I never said thanks. One day I will in heaven. What a great day that will be.

All of our love
Phil Cochrane and family
