Obituary for Frederick Malcolm Campbell

It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Fred Malcolm Campbell on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at the age of 80 years old. Fred was born on July 8, 1938 in Calgary and was raised on a farm in Balzac. Fred attended Buttes County School in Balzac which he often joked that he had to ride his horse uphill both ways in the snow each day. After graduating from Crescent Heights High School, Fred worked at Dominion Supermarket/Safeway which he worked his way into management and also met his wife Marlene. Fred and Marlene were married in 1963 and lived in Calgary until 1978 when they moved their family to Olds to build their dream home and get back to his joy of full-time farming. Fred will be remembered for his love of farming and passion for hockey. He spent as many hours in the field as he did the rink, whether it was coaching, President of the Olds Minor Hockey Association, sharpening skates, watching his grandchildren on the ice or cheering for the Grizzlies and Flames. Fred had a wonderful sense of humour, was always ready to help a friend or neighbour when needed and enjoyed his coffee with the men each morning for many years. He had a kind side that became more evident when his grandchildren were around. Fred was predeceased by his wife of forty years Marlene. He is survived by his three children Darryl (Lynn), Darcy (Deenise) and Deanna (Mark); 7 grandchildren Lauren, Brett, Brandt, Rachel, Jennica, Bailee and Brayden; 2 sisters Florence Campbell and Carol Mather. A special thank you to the staff at the Seasons Olds Encore for their loving care over the past few years, as well as his caring friend Lorna Samuel. Funeral services were held on Thursday January 31, 2019 at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #105, Olds. Interment followed in the Olds Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to Alberta Children’s Hospital or S.T.A.R.S. Air Ambulance.
