Condolences & Tributes

We encourage you to share any memorable photos or stories about Mitchell. All tributes placed on and purchased through this memorial website will remain on in perpetuity for future generations.

We are so sorry for your loss. May you find comfort in family and friends (Proverbs 17:17). For additional strength, may you find it in God who cares for you (1 Peter 5:7). Please accept our deepest condolences.

I was shocked and deeply saddened when I heard of Mitchell's passing. To me, he was a smart, ambitious, creative, funny, and warm student, with impeccable manners. He was an excellent student in my Computer Programming for Engineers course, at the University of Alberta, in the Winter Term of 2015. Mitchell won one category of my extracurricular programming contest. He developed a fantasy game called "Tales from Veilenia". He wrote almost 13,000 lines of code! He also made a 5 minute video, incorporating some of his friends and props, that racked up over 500 views on YouTube. I was pleased to hear from Mitchell from time to time, since then, and was always happy to provide a reference for him, e.g., for work placements and summer jobs. Mitchell's family and friends are going to miss him the most, of course, but truly it is a big loss for all of us.

I have been Mitchell's instructor of ECE455 "nanobiotechnology systems" in Winter 2017. Mitchell is an excellent student. He obtained Dean's Research Award and worked in our lab on functional nanoparticles for gene delivery. He is deeply missed.

My deepest and sincerest condolences to the Ormann Family. I had the privilege of being one of Mitch's engineering co-op coordinators. I first met Mitch in Lethbridge on his first work term and then once again at General Dynamics on his last work term. He was an exceptional young man and I was privileged to see him grow and mature through the years. As both a parent and grandparent my heart hurts for your loss. May Mitchell Rest in Peace in the arms of the Lord.

Mitchell was a student in my class this term and it seems like the term had really just started and I had only just begun to connect names and faces when I received the news of Mitchell's passing. My prayers are with his family, friends, and colleagues.
